New Apps, Content Pour into SHIELD; Get $25 Savings on Remote

PLEX – the digital media manager software pre-installed on SHIELD Android TV – is the latest app to bring new capabilities, such as improved support for 4K streaming, to SHIELD.

SHIELD is built to keep you entertained.

PLEX on SHIELD Android TV slurps up media from the Internet and your home network, pouring it into a single, streamlined interface. It serves up detailed information for your content, including genre, original artwork, ratings, a synopsis, and runtime.

New PLEX features include:

Enhanced 4K Ultra HD video streaming with new HEVC (H.265) support
MKV open video file format support;
Dolby Digital Plus surround sound support.

Just start PLEX on your SHIELD and follow the on-screen prompts to update your app.

SHIELD also supports the latest version of the open source Kodi home theater player. Highlights include support for 4K, refresh rate switching, HEVC playback, a new chapter selector window, and adaptive seeking. You can download it now from the Google Play store on your SHIELD.

Updated Entertainment Apps, New Content Pouring In

New content for SHIELD continues to stream in as well. HBO Now has been enabled on Chromecast — allowing you to "cast" HBO Now content from your phone or tablet to SHIELD. Look for HBO Now and HBO Go soon on SHIELD and Android TV, too.

Sports content keeps coming, too. Wrestling fans can now tune into content from the WWE Network. Mixed martial arts is coming soon, from UFC.
