HP’S NEW 5K DISPLAY COSTS OVER $1,000 LESS THAN THE COMPETITION

HP’S NEW 5K DISPLAY COSTS OVER $1,000 LESS THAN THE COMPETITION

$1,300 isn’t cheap, but it’s a far cry from $2,500.

Are you prepared for 5K gaming? Probably not, if we’re being honest (and neither am I, if that makes you feel better). But HP is, thanks to a slew of new UHD monitors, including a massive 5120×2880 display.

The Z27q is the 5K darling, and it’s undercutting the (admittedly limited) 5K competition already. The 27-inch display packs a 5120×2880 resolution, making for over 14.7 million total pixels and a 218ppi pixel density. And while the pixel count is impressive enough on its own, the Z27q is no slouch; an 8ms (GTG) IPS panel is buried inside, along with 10-bit color, and accurate color and calibration for three spectrums (Adobe, sRGB, BT.709).

Due to the high resolution, HDMI has been ditched completely. Two DisplayPort 1.2 ports are on-board, along with five USB 3.0 ports — one connects to your PC, while the other four act as a monitor-mounted hub.

Now, $1,300 isn’t cheap for a monitor of any kind…but it’s an impressive number for a monitor that is absurdly future-proof. The only other US-based manufacturer making a 5K display right now is Dell, and their model is going for a whopping $2,500. So if you’re comfortable spending as much money on your monitor as you would a decent mid-range gaming PC? $1,300 is an easier pill to swallow.

And HP isn’t forgetting about 4K, either; the Z24s and Z27s are both sub-$750 4K displays, with the former going for $549. Specs on the monitor duo appear to be the same, save for the 23.8- and 27-inch display sizes. $549 for a 4K 60 Hz display? That’s a monitor that might call dibs on part of your tax refund check come springtime.
